The Graduate Nurse Education Grant Program awards scholarship funds to graduate nursing schools within Pennsylvania. These scholarships will be used to increase enrollment and improve student retention for those students who are pursuing a graduate education in nursing or nursing education.

Working in cooperation with the Leadership Council of the Pennsylvania Center for Health Careers, the Pennsylvania Higher Education Foundation (PHEF) has recognized that the shortage of Nurse Educators will limit the ability of nursing schools to increase their enrollment. It is PHEF’s hope that through this program nursing schools will eventually be able to accept all qualified students who apply.

In December of 2005, PHEF sent an application and guidelines to the 32 Pennsylvania Graduate Schools of Nursing asking for proposals to fund graduate nursing students who are pursuing an education to teach. The deadline to submit the grant proposal was January 13, 2006. The Foundation expects to review these proposals then send out award letters in February of 2006.
